Our History

1932: Foundation of Canadian Blackboard Company Ltd.

The Canadian Blackboard Company Ltd. (CBBC) was founded on Notre-Dame Street at the corner of 10th Avenue in Lachine by Mr. Émilien Lauzon in 1932. Initially, the company applied paint on Masonite panels for the Frères de l'Institution Chrétienne. Shortly afterwards, CBBC add an import division for Italian cherries in order to transform them into cocktail cherries.

1956: CBBC moves

Company activities slowly but steadily mushroomed. In 1956, CBBC move to Saint-Constant on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, on the land it still occupies today. At the time of the move, the city was still young and was built around the company.

1960: Arrival of Mr. Denis Tremblay

Mr. Denis Tremblay began working for CBBC and quickly rose through the ranks to become the general manager of the company.

1970: Strategic changes within the company

Mr. Tremblay made several strategic changes and eliminated the cherry import division, which had become incompatible with CBBC's primary mission, board manufacturing.

1975: Change of ownership

When Mr. Émilien Lauzon retired, Mr. Denis Tremblay officially purchased CBBC.

1987: Fire at the manufacturing facility

A major fire destroyed the manufacturing facility where the administrative offices were also located. The building was rebuilt on the original foundation. It is also taller to ensure better configuration of the premises.

2012: Changes in the general management

Mr. Denis Tremblay transferred CBBC's general management to Mr. Éric Hamel, who has been with the company since 1993.

2017: Arrival of a new President

Frédéric Tremblay, Denis Tremblay's son, became the Director of Operations and was appointed President of the family business less than a year later.
